This year saw one of the largest entries at the 7th Forest Heath Charity Pairs held at the Highflyer paddock Tattersalls. Twenty nine teams travelled from across the region and further afield to play in the charity event with teams travelling from Kegworth, Woburn and Leicester.
The chosen charity this year was CLICSargeant which is well known locally due to the sterling fund raising done by Liam Fairhurst from Soham. The total figure raised on the day came to the grand amount of £350. Liam and family were invited along for the afternoon as guests and to present the trophies at the end play. During the afternoon Liam and his brother Callum were given an introduction to Petanque by two local players Vanessa Webb and Chris Allen from West Row, who have in the past and recently represented England on many occassions.
The final results were dominated by local players with only travelling pairing from Leicester taking third place in the plate competition. Runners up in the plate competition were Colin Talbot and Richard Marks from Bury St Edmunds and winning this section was Tania Cowling and Andy Wilson from Stowmarket. In the main competition coming in at third place were two of the event organisors from Exning P.C Ken Harris and Mick Whymer. Runners up were a father and daughter pairing of Marian and David Halsey, the competition was sponsored by Pen-Y-Coed Petanque of Bardwell which is run by Marian and her partner Phil Boarder. The worthy winners on the day were Vanessa Webb and Chris Allen who play for the Maids Head team from Mildenhall. Scoring and organising of the days play was done by Tricia Harris (Exning P.C & Newmarket and Distric Petanque League secretary) who was constanly kept busy ensuring the days play ran smoothly.
Exning P.C and F.H.D.C. would like to thank Pen-y-Coed for their ongoing sponsorship of the event and the support of all payers who turn up for the event.
